220 Old Finds

The small display cabinet next to the beam presumably houses the oldest exhibits of the museum. These are cutting tools, sickles, knives, as well as vine knives, likely originating from the 14th and 15th century, and were discovered in Durbach during the so-called hoard in 1912. …
The sickle museum in Achern owns another part of the find. Back then, iron tools were incredibly valuable, which is why they were hidden or buried when enemies were advancing.
This crossbow bolt was found inside the Stollenburg ruins and presumably dates back to 1600. Oral lore has it that the Stollenburg was destroyed by the Bishop of Strasbourg as early as 1329. Two wall remains as well as two circular ramparts are all that is left from the castle. The origin of the castle is not known.
