The three old books on agricultural topics exhibited here are a real treasure of the museum …
A particularly valuable piece is the Vieharzneybuch, which is not dated precisely but was created around 1750 and originated from the Kiefer estate in Lautenbach. One must take time to read some of the prescriptions and livestock disease treatments. It contains many superstitions. A remedy often used was, amongst others, Knabenbruntzwasser or Lohstaub. Many of the medicinal herbs that are used nowadays were already in use back then.
The viticulture textbook from 1682 shows the techniques of wine cultivation, vine care and wine production that were common 350 years ago in a very vivid way.
The agricultural textbook by the estate manager Reibel from 1872 is also a special book. It comes from the old vineyard of the Zorn von Bulach, the forerunner of the Graf Wolff Metternich winery, and is on loan from Graf Wolff-Metternich. The book contains many useful tips on plant breeding, cultivation and plant protection.
